How to Get to Punta Maroma
Punta Maroma is located about 30 minutes to the north of Playa del Carmen and is accessible only via boat or car.
The most efficient method to reach the destination is by renting or driving cars. However, you can also catch the bus or taxi from Playa del Carmen.
Driving to Punta Maroma
It is a good idea to consider renting a car for a trip to Playa del Carmen if you’re confident driving by yourself and looking to discover destinations off the beaten track.
To get to Playa del Carmen, take the main road 307 north for approximately twelve miles (20 km) until you reach the Punta Maroma highway signs.
It is then necessary to take a left off the main road (follow the directions to El Dorado Maroma), which will direct you toward Maroma Beach Club. Maroma Beach Club.
Security
You can go the security gate at the entrance, and you must inform the guards that you’re going to a specific resort or beach club.
Security is a concern At Punta Maroma, specifically in the case of a resort. Inform them you’re only visiting the beach club, and they’ll let you go.
Parking at Punta Maroma
After arriving in Punta Maroma and you’ll find ample parking spaces at the beach club or in Punta Maroma’s Punta Maroma hotels.
Take a Taxi to Punta Maroma
Punta Maroma can also be reached via a taxi ride from Playa del Carmen. For each trip, taxi rates will likely be about 400 pesos (~ USD 20).
If you are returning, a taxi stand is in front of Maroma Beach Club. Maroma Beach Club (next to El Dorado Maroma) will assist you in getting taxis for the return journey.
Take Public Transportation to Punta Maroma
Public transportation is available. Punta Maroma can also be reached via the Colectivo (shared van) or Playa Express van from Playa del Carmen. This is the most affordable alternative, but it requires some walking!
The main bus station in Playa del Carmen is at Avenida Juarez and Highway 307 (behind McDonald’s).
You can take the usual colectivo route from Playa del Carmen to Cancun or the Playa Express. Be aware that it is essential to note that the Playa Express depot is just across the highway.
Both go to the exact location. However, the Playa Express is a large Sprinter-style and far more comfortable Van. After getting on it, you must inform the driver that you’re headed to Punta Maroma. You’ll be able to pay when you leave.
The price should be lower than 50 Pesos (~ USD 2.50) per way. You’ll be required to have some small cash in your wallet (pesos are ideal) because most drivers don’t have a lot of change.
If you’re taking a colectivo ride to Punta Maroma, you’ll get dropped off by the roadside, which means you’ll need around 30 minutes to stroll to get there from where you are.
To return, you must reverse the procedure and cross the highway to get a colectivo and a Playa Express from Cancun to Playa del Carmen.
